IMPORTANT INFO ABOUT COMMUNICATION!
DUE TO THE NEW STATE LAW REGARDING CELL PHONES - the district has changed the policies regarding which apps we are allowed to use for communication.
The district will be sending out information/instructions to families BUT I can tell you 3 things:
All players and parents should download the "Olathe Public Schools" App to their phones (accessible from google play store and apple store). This has a built in "chat" function that we'll use for 2 way communication.
All players and parents should get accustomed to checking this website daily for information.
All players should get accustomed to checking their school e-mail regularly, as this will be the primary way for coaches to communicate with you during the school day.
We still don't have guidance on what the plan is for how cell phones will be managed moving forward, but rest assured it will be much more strict than the district policy we've had in the past. There will be growing pains, but we will make it work!
Fall 2026 Girls Tennis!
Girls Tennis Tryouts Start on Monday August 17th, 2026
Assuming good weather, tryouts will run from 3:00-5:30 PM Monday August 17 - Thursday August 20 @ CBAC (just West of ONW across Lone Elm). If weather does not allow roster decisions to be made, tryouts may continue beyond that date.
All players MUST have proper physical and concussion paperwork on file in the office (this is digital now) BEFORE participating in tryouts. (See "important links" page under "home" of this website)
Tryouts will be in the form of singles challenge matches, with approximately 24 players making the roster, along with the following rule:
any senior must end up in the top 12 to make the team (this policy is in place to ensure JV matches serve the correct purpose, and the limited court space at ONW goes to developing players who have a chance to contribute at the varsity level in the future)
Weather during tryouts is typically HOT, and players need to be prepared to play tennis continuously for up to 2 hours during this process. We will, of course, follow guidance related to heat provided by the district, but make sure to bring anything you'll need to stay cool and hydrated during and in between matches!
Some players may be exempt from the tryout process due to participation in high level USTA tournaments (or prior state medalist status), but PLEASE get in touch with me ASAP at dasmith@olatheschools.org to indicate your desire to participate and make a plan for joining our team at the appropriate time.
Please contact me with any other questions you have about participating!

General season information:
Practices are held Monday through Friday, 3:00-5:00 in general. Specific schedules, that are updated regularly, can be found under the "schedules" tab of this website.
Players need to provide their own racket to use during the season, and players will also pay a uniform fee, (estimated to be $30-35) which covers a shirt that the players get to keep. (Players provide their own shorts for competition).
I do 99% of my communication directly with players through the BAND app.
